For this paper, you will choose
a fictional media artifact (film, book series, television series, graphic novels, etc.)   you are familiar with
that involves a long lasting interpersonal relationship (familial, professional,
friendly, romantic) that gets involved in some sort of conflict or struggle.
It should be a story that you are familiar with and have access to, with a segment that is of manageable length. Think
a film with several key scenes that shape the path of a relationship
a season of a TV show where two characters experiences a couple of turning points in their story.
a book with several critical chapters that shape the nature of two people.
You will write a paper describing this interpersonal relationship and using course concepts to analyze key components of this relationship.
Over the course of your analysis and discussion, you must use no less than 6 key terms and concepts across no less than 4 of the final 6 chapters of the book.
Specifically, you should be using all of chapters 7, 8, & 9 (emotion, trust, climate, conflict, etc) and one of chapters 10, 11, 12 (either family, friendship, romance, or profession)
there is the possibility that the story of one relationship starts as one type but ends as another (for example, romance to family or professional to romance), so consider these chapter usages as a minimum.
Please feel free to draw from knowledge and concepts from previous chapters of the book as it will likely help your discussion and analysis, but they will not count toward this minimum requirement.
Please be detailed in the usage of the selected terms:
include the precise term being used (bold and highlight them, if
you please)
include definitions and/or explanations of the terms and their
usage,
including page numbers and chapter numbers where relevant.
I would recommend using the story arc of your characters as the organizational strategy for your paper. But as you come across key moments in the story, please discuss the following prompts:
Describe the relationship formation as depicted in the media artifact in relevant detail. Consider discussing relationship formation and evolution (chapters 10 & 11), as well as perceived levels of intimacy in the relationship (chapter 11). Or perhaps use one or more of the various models of family phases and life cycles to discuss at what phase(s) the family is going through (Chapter 12).
Second, discuss the nature of trust in this relationship (chapter 8 & 10), and how this trust may be affected, either positively or negatively, by emotional intelligence and articulation or through conflict management (chapter 7 & 9).
Finally, discuss a conflict in this relationship (chapter 9), and how power influences the way the conflict plays out and is resolved.
Having applied the course concepts in analyzing this mediated relationship, conclude your paper by discussing what practical advice (either what to do or what not to do) can be gleaned and applied to your life from viewing this media artifact through this academic lens.
