Purpose:  Improve parents’ understanding of the behaviors and thought processes

June 25, 2024

Purpose:
Improve parents’ understanding of the behaviors and thought processes of adolescents.
This can be accomplished in part by providing information regarding the physical changes as adolescents transition to early adulthood/emerging adulthood.
The goal of this assignment is to help you understand the physical, cognitive and social-emotional changes associated with adolescence.
NOTE: The word “adolescents” refers to individuals in the United States ages approximately 10 years old to 20 years old.  The term “adolescence” is a developmental stage.
Task:
Using the resources provided in Module 7, write one to two pages of content providing information about physical changes and brain development during adolescence and how these changes may affect cognitive, social and emotional development during adolescence to help reduce the adolescent-parent conflict.
Instructor note: In other words: consider that parents often complain “teenager wants to be treated like an adult but acts like a child” and teenager complains that “parent wants me to act like an adult but treat me like a child”.  The information in paper should help educate reader regarding how physical changes affect behaviors and thought processes during adolescence.
Reminder: 7.5: Adolescence: Lecture Transcript based on empirical evidence about the physical changes including brain development during adolescence includes information not presented in other sections of the chapter.
Criteria:
Your essay should be written in paragraph form with no less than one page of written content and no more than two full pages content. Papers should include one brief quote (5 to 7 words) per page – if any! Your essay should follow APA format. REVIEW minimum requirements below.
The APA internal citations and reference for the book are modeled in the APA Example Paper under Course Resources.  I encourage you to use the PSY 241 Example Paper as a template!
Minimum Requirements:
Activities: Activities that fulfill the minimum requirements will receive C (70-79). In order to achieve a B (80-89), you must show that you have become involved in the thought process and used critical thinking skills to answer the questions. A (90-98) shows involvement in the activity and substantial writing and thought. For an activity to receive 99-100 points you must “go the extra mile”; you will have a lot of thought and discussion within the activity answer, and will have used the activity to an extent that goes beyond the minimum requirements. A (99-100) activity shows that you made the assignment useful to your experiences. Keep in mind that 1-2 sentences does not fully answer a question or cover the topic. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Format (Points will be deducted for not following the format instructions below):
File Naming Format: When saving an assignment file you should follow the following format: LastnameFirstinitial_module#. For example, if I were a student and were saving Chapter 3 activity, my file name would be: NicksT_Module2
Each file must be saved as PDF or a Word document. I cannot open files saved as wps or Google docs and a zero will given.
Citations and Reference:  All activities and the Project must include a reference section and internal citations. Internal citations and the reference section must follow APA format. Since, your ability to answer the questions does not come from common knowledge you MUST use internal citations and include a reference section. Failure to do so will result in a zero for the assignment. NO EXCUSES!
Title Page: Each assignment must start with an APA title.
Line Spacing:  Double Spaced
Font:  Times New Roman 12 point font
Page Length: 1 to 2 full pages content (no less than 1 page, you need to fully address the question and no more than 2 full pages content.)
Avoid use of first person (such as “I”, “we”, “us”, “etc) and personal examples.
