This assignment will be completed in three steps: The annotated bibliography, the literature review, and the final paper. This assignment is designed to familiarize you with research and help you hone your APA style writing and skills. All of the components of the assignment will we written in 12-point Times Roman Font and double space with an appropriate reference page. See week two for proper APA style and citation to use for this assignment.
The first step will be an Annotated Bibliography (25pts). You will need a minimum of 6 scholarly research articles/books (these should have been collected during weeks 2 & 3 of the class) based on your social issue to complete this assignment. All articles or book chapters must be written within the last 5 years. An annotated bibliography is composed of the APA Style, 7th Edition reference and a short paragraph that briefly describes what the article is about. The annotation should not simply be a copy/paste of the abstract. The annotation is usually 100 words and may include why you chose that source, strengths or weaknesses of the source, the source’s conclusion on the topic, how the source can be used in the paper, amongst other things.
The purposes of Annotated Bibliography include:
By critically evaluating the literature, it helps you learn more about the research topic.
Summarizes the major issues and arguments in the research topic.
Helps you find the differences in interpretations of the theories on that topic and the various critiques
Aids the development of your critical reading and analytical skills by causing a deeper engagement with different sources.
The writing process of an annotated bibliography involves the following steps:
·         Literature search involves locating and recording all the sources which could be books, documents, periodicals, and even websites that contain useful information and ideas on your topic.
·         Review and examine – involves reviewing and examining all of the sources of information and then selecting those sources that give you a wide variety of perspectives on the research topic.
·         Cite – involves citing all the sources of information using an appropriate formal style in APA.
·         Annotation – involves writing a short annotation that summarizes the major concept and scope of the source
