June 25, 2024

Prompt:
Critique your selected pieces for their use of the English language, their use of words, potential influences in their use of the language, as well as how the history of the English language informs these elements.
The following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Analysis and Critique: In this part of the project, you will write about the pieces (Twisted and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe)as directed in the prompt. You will describe the pieces and explain why they were chosen. Then, you will analyze and critique the chosen pieces for their use of words and how they use the English language.
A. Choose one of the pieces and describe changes that would need to be made to reflect the time period of the other piece. The Week Five discussion will help you with this critical element.
B. Explain how the use of language in the chosen pieces helps or hinders the pieces’ ability to properly convey their intended message to their original audience and time period.
C. Make recommendations as to how the pieces could be changed to better align with the standard use of language and linguistic principles. It may help to look at the previous element “intended message” and the element “use of language” from Milestone Two. This is not a criticism of the writers but intended to show your understanding of what would be required to align their use of language to standard English.
D. Explain how the pieces utilize morphological, phonological, and semantic elements differently due to their difference in time periods.
E. Describe the environmental, historical, and cultural influences on the writers of the two selected pieces. This may include events that happened around the writers or over the course of their lives.
F. Explain how the different factors described have influenced the use of language in the analyzed pieces. Include examples from the pieces that reflect these factors.
What to Submit:
Your analysis must be submitted as a 3 page document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and follow the most current MLA formatting.
