Your annotated bibliography will contain five (5) sources from which you would support a
1500-word research paper from the thesis you have prepared.
You will need one each from the following five (5) types of sources:
1) a chapter from a book (either fiction or nonfiction)
2) a scholarly or professional journal article (from the NCCU Shepard Library databases — not an internet site)
3) a newspaper article (either print or online)
4) An Internet site, preferably a professional organization or advocacy group (not a news source)
5) a television show, film, or video (documentary or fictional narrative)
Format:
Typed and double-spaced using a 12-point font in Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri (Word default). Each entry will include the following:
Correctly formatted citation in MLA format
A summary, including the main idea and supporting points (4-6 sentences)
At least one quotation from the source
Appropriate parenthetical documentation for quoted material (MLA format)
Author’s and Director’s background, including degrees, professional experience, and/or other publications (films/TV shows) (1-2 sentences) (See International Movie Database (IMDb.com)
Evaluation of the article itself (how it is written), including the author’s use of sufficient evidence from credible sources, plus consideration from the opposing point of view (2-3 sentences)
Specific explanation of how you would use this source in your essay (1 sentence)
The annotated bibliography will be arranged in ALPHABETICAL ORDER.
Purpose:
To help you develop skills in research, evaluation of sources, organizing and identifying main ideas and supporting information.
This annotated bibliography will help you decide which sources and which arguments are pertinent to the position you would discuss in the paper on
the chosen topic. It will also help your learning and retention of the MLA Style.
Note:
To receive the full measure of points for this assignment (200), you must have five complete entries, each to the type and description above. Substantial deduction of points will occur if this target is not met.
