Imagine you have an opportunity to present your group proposal to your colleague

June 24, 2024

Imagine you have an opportunity to present your group proposal to your colleagues, supervisor, and interns at your clinic. It is your goal to promote your group by sharing the details of your group and also provide your colleagues with a script to recruit new members. In this Discussion, you will use Kaltura to share a presentation, and then you will respond to each other to demonstrate the use of a specific counseling skill.
Example script to a client:
You have been working on your goals of addressing your chronic stress. When we first started, you shared that your stress level was at a 9. You have been working hard utilizing your coping strategies, and after a month, you indicated that you are feeling that your stress level is at a 6. You are making great progress. This month, I will be facilitating a group that will focus on stress reduction. I think you would really benefit from this group, as this would give you an opportunity to connect with other people who have similar goals. The group will meet for 8 weeks here at the clinic. Would you be interested in participating?
To prepare:
Review the Learning Resources and Discussion prompt.
Access your completed Group Proposal Template Final that you submitted last week.

Attach your Group Proposal Template Final to your initial post.
Then, record a 3- to 4-minute Kaltura video with two main elements:
Group Introduction: Introduce your group proposal by providing a summary of each of the key points of your proposal, including:
Introduce your group and discuss the purpose of your group, the target population/topic you are addressing, and your rationale for the group.
Discuss the type of group you are facilitating, your objectives and measurable objective outcomes, and setting (in-person or virtual).
Discuss your theoretical framework.
Analyze the legal and ethical considerations by discussing potential legal and ethical challenges. Then, explain how you will engage in best, practices, including legal and ethical practices and culturally responsive practices, to foster respect in your group.
Summarize the skills application and session plan. Discuss the outline for your first group session, specifically the skills, timeline, and activities for your first session. You are welcome to screen-share your outline.
Recruitment: Finally, in your video share a sample script that your colleagues could use to recruit members. Provide a script for what your colleagues may say to a potential client. Review the sample script in the discussion introduction for ideas.
By Day 6
Review your colleagues’ posts, paying close attention to your colleagues’ Skills Application and Session Plan. Imagine you have been chosen to co-facilitate two of your colleagues’ groups and are beginning the group session 1 where you will be implementing the session plan.
Respond to two colleagues with different group topics by creating and posting a 30- to 60-second video response demonstrating the skill Explore based on your colleagues’ session plan goals and objectives.
When demonstrating the mesoskill Explore, use a combination of microskills that are appropriate to elicit group members’ stated reason, purpose, and goals for coming to the session, as well as contextual information about obstacles and strengths. These should be based on the session objectives that your colleague presented in their group presentation and session lesson plan.
Return to this forum to continue the conversation.
This activity will contribute to your skills demonstrations for your skills assessment in this course.
