To Prepare
Review the Allyship Project details in Week 10.
Select a group or population for your Allyship Project.
Search the Walden Library for peer-reviewed literature with the potential to advance your knowledge on the selected group or population.
Select five to seven peer-reviewed articles based on your Walden Library search. Be sure to select articles published within the last 5 years.
(Week 10 Allyship Project details)
Select your role within the organization for which you are
delivering this presentation. This does not need to be a role you currently
occupy or have occupied in the past, but you will want to be familiar with the
role to help inform your presentation.
For example, you might take the role of a social work
educator, administrator, supervisor, or researcher.
Select your audience for this presentation. This will likely
depend, at least in part, on the role you selected.
For example, you might want to present to students,
colleagues, supervisees, or other researchers on your team.
Select the population about whom you will be presenting.
This population should be outside of your own intersectionalities. Consider the
weekly topics to select the population.
For example, if you identify as a Christian, select a
non-Christian religion for your presentation, or if you identify as
heterosexual, select an LGBT+ population for your presentation. You may also be
as specific as you wish in your allyship (e.g., allyship to the deaf or
hearing-impaired populations).
Review the resource, Tips for Creating and Delivering and
Effective Presentation, in the Learning Resources this week.
Complete the two-part Assignment.
Part 1:
Submit a short—500 words or fewer—project proposal. For your proposal, address the following:
Provide a brief overview of the topic.
Describe the population that you will focus on for your Allyship Project.
Explain how you might use the presentation as a social work educator, administrator, clinical supervisor, or researcher.
Part 2:
Submit a 2- to 3-page synthesis of the literature related to your topic. Using what you learn from the literature, address the following:
Provide demographic information of the group or population and explain why you want to explore allyship from the perspective of this group or population.
Provide historical context for this group or population.
Consider how the resources highlight current issues for the group or population.
Describe next steps—what additional searching do you need to do to continue learning about the group or population, or fulfill the requirements of the Week 10 Allyship Project?
