Option 2: Journal Entries
Choose one or more journal entries from the quarter to expand upon. Describe the ways in which your entry/ entries impacted your performance in class. Consider if your journal entry altered your approach to learning. Questions to consider: Did your entires shed light on common thinking patterns, movement patterns that may no longer be serving you? Did your writing conflict with your ability to take class? Be prepared to articulate why you think that is. Did your entry open a locked door, or turn on a light for you? What happened in this moment?
1. Be sure to articulate clearly how your journal responses impacted the way you approached class.
2. Include clear examples whether it be describing a train of thought or a change in movement/ learning patterns.
Guidelines/ Reminders for papers:
MLA Format: Times New Roman, 12 point font, & double spaced, 3-4 pages in length
Your header should be single spaced, placed in the top left corner of the page, and include the following: Your first/ last name, the course title/ time, instructor’s name, & due date. Pages should be numbered as such: Allen 1, Allen 2, etc.

There is no doubt that Journal entries have been playing an important role in achieving my personal goals and gaining better performance throughout the spring quarter. It was just fascinating to write a journal entry at first as it built a relaxed study environment that opened my mind, while gradually I found out it was an efficient approach to learning with critical thinking. In light of the journal entries we had this quarter, I’m going to mainly discuss three journal entries that had a great impact on thinking pattern by alternating my approach to learning and making connection between mental and body, and movement patterns by impacted me the most by alternating and modifying my thinking pattern of how to (为了达成的)approach my learning goals and make connections , and by my movement patterns by better to better understand the placement, articulation, and movement relations.
Reallly Had chance to think about what I want what i lack and self-examination and summarize the problems and solve these problems.
The first journal entry was the one that been asked after 3 classes,
Journal entry 1:What difficulties you have encountered mentally and phyisically and what is your goal for today’s class.
I physical felt stuck because I couldn’t sleep well last week that I could only fall asleep at 3am and have to wake up at 8am.(figure out the reason why i can not focus and try to have positive altitude , how to solve this problem to be more concentrate on the class)
I mentally felt stuck because just attend this class everything is strange and fresh
Goal: still felt uncomfortable and unfamiliar with the movement and have issues to follow.
Good start of how to be success in this class to figure out the approach to learning in this class, found out my problems in time to solve and better 融入课堂)
Journal entry2: Write about a recurring struggle that you have been having in class. Follow this up by writing down one or two resources available to you in our current setting that can help you rewire your mind/ body when approaching this struggle.
my answer:cannot fully focus and trust myself while moving
Cannot memorize the movement
not flexible enough
Problem:movement relationship
Solving:find more fluidity between movements by being more expansive. this will stretch time and smooth out transitions.
not sure if all movements are correctly
Probeml: pelvis can not go down
Solving: focus on finding a neutral/stacked spine. pelvis is back during part 3 slides. widen legs to let pelvis come forward and down
resource I used: watch the previous class video to practice after class and review the anatomy
(anatomy, and made non anatomical observations about different bones and structures in our body. Questions to consider: How did these discussions impact you as a dancer? Did you observe changes in how your body adapted to movement phrases in class? Be prepared to articulate what these obervation/ changes were, whether mental of physical. Did viewing the structure of the skeleton (bones muscle) have an impact on how you view your own dancing body? Be prepared to explain.)
My problem:articulation alignment
Solving: double bounce curves need a tucked/ heavy tail bone to create more of a curve.
Drop the last part of spinal cours that is close to your bottom, make it heavy and like someone is pouching your stomach to do the double bounce
Journal entry 3: What feels uncertain right now? Whether it be in your life or during class? In this uncertain situation, what can you control?
My answer :not sure if my movements correct to get a good grade in midterm
Practice MORE AND be confident
With the more classes i’m having and the way I learned to approach modern dance I figured that every dance has its own emotion and story it wants to express. How to narrative a vivid story with fulfilled (产生共鸣)emotion to your audience with your (舒展的,极致的)movenment is the cruial part of a dance. From my perspective, It is worthing to mention that this crucial ideas happens to be embodied in my journal entries at the beginning of the class, as the journals provided me different thinking patterns every class, not only by thinking about the difficulties I met to study how to learn the movements better, but also changed my thinking mode and gave me different stories and different emotions for each course I wanted
