When conducting research, it is essential to carefully consider the various data collection strategies available. The choice of methodology and analytical approach adopted by a researcher significantly impacts how the collected information is utilized and the depth of explanations it can offer (Paradis et al., 2016). Understanding the different data collection strategies is crucial, as they ultimately influence the insights and conclusions drawn from the data (Paradis et al., 2016). There are eight primary data collection strategies, including interviews, case studies, questionnaires, observations, focus groups, text analysis, existing data, and random sampling. For my current project, which focuses on comparing the effects of technological services on reducing medication errors and increasing safety for older patients compared with traditional services, the most suitable data collection strategies would be existing data and case studies. By concentrating on examining existing data and studies on different technological services and their effects on older patients, I aim to develop comprehensive research that will help convey the true impact of technological services on medication errors and patient safety. This approach will allow for a robust analysis based on established research and real-world case examples, contributing to a more insightful and impactful study.

In my research into patient satisfaction within pediatric therapy services, I am particularly focused on understanding how communication between therapists, pediatric patients, and caregivers impacts overall satisfaction levels and treatment outcomes. Considering this research focus, selecting the appropriate data collection strategy is crucial. Below are the eight data collection strategies commonly used in research:

I find that a combination of surveys/questionnaires and interviews would likely be the most suitable strategy. Surveys will enable me to gather structured feedback on satisfaction levels and communication experiences quantitatively, offering broad insights across a larger sample. Meanwhile, interviews will provide a deeper qualitative understanding of the specific communication dynamics and perceived outcomes from the perspective of therapists, pediatric patients, and caregivers. This dual approach would provide a comprehensive understanding of how communication influences satisfaction and treatment efficacy in pediatric therapy services (Curry, L. A., et al., 2009).

One research method, longitudinal qualitative research, can add depth and show relationships between research such as for chronic conditions and health care policies (Grossoehme & Lipstein, 2016). There is benefit to this type of research as we try to understand links between conditions, geography, socio-economic status, racial/ethnic groups, genetic markers, etc.

Ethics in healthcare research are crucial as they ensure the protection and well-being of participants while maintaining integrity and validity in findings (Weinbaum, C., et al., 2019). In my research on patient satisfaction in pediatric therapy services, several ethical considerations must be carefully evaluated:

The above-mentioned ethical considerations are essential to uphold throughout the study, ensuring that the research is conducted ethically and responsibly while yielding valuable insights into improving communication, satisfaction levels, and treatment outcomes in pediatric therapy services. Furthermore, integrating mechanisms for ongoing ethical review and reflection throughout the study can help navigate complex ethical dilemmas that may arise, ensuring continued adherence to ethical standards and the highest level of research integrity (Slade, S., & Prinsloo, P., 2013).
