This week we will look at the topics of English
Colonization, Life in British North America, and the Causes for the America Revolution.  Read “The
American Yawp” Volume I: Before 1877.  Read the
following sections:
Colonization: Chapter 2: sections IV-V and
chapter 2: sections VI-VII
British N. America: Chapter 3: Sections I, II and
chapter 3: sections V-VI
Causes for War: Chapter 4: Sections IV-VII and
Chapter 5: Sections I-IV
Answer all of the below questions in a short
response of about 10 sentences for each question minimum. You MUST include the question in your
answer so that it is clear to the professor which
question you are answering. Please note, if you
simply restate the question at the start, as
opposed to incorporating it in your answer, it
WILL NOT count towards the sentence minimum of 8-10 sentences.
Your responses should be based ONLY on those
resources provided. Please DO NOT use any other
resources. You MUST make clear and direct
references to ALL resources. To do this, you MUST
include at least two quotes per answer. All quotes
MUST be properly cited in either MLA or APA form.
You MUST NOT use any form of Artificial
Intelligence to craft your responses. If you are
discovered to have done so, your answer will
receive a zero.
Questions:
1. Describe and Explain the colonization of
Jamestown by the British. (Focus your answer on
the actual settlement of the colony, key people,
and the struggles the colony experienced)
2. Describe and Explain the role of tobacco in
Jamestown and how it contributed to the
development of race based slavery. (Consider
events like Bacon’s Rebellion)
3. Compare and Contrast the colonial experiences
of Plymouth Planation and Massachusetts Bay.
(Consider who settled the colony, why they
settled and the struggles they experienced)
4. Describe the Salem Witch Trails and Explain
what you think caused them. (Be sure to include
historical context)
5. Compare and Contrast the ideas of the
Enlightenment and the First Great Awakening.
(You must explain how both movements helped to
bring about war  with Britain)
6. Identify and Describe the events that led to the
American Revolution. (Consider events beginning
with the French and Indian War up to the Battle of
Lexington/Concord in 1775)
