Discussion activities are designed to enhance active learning.  Consider that you are submitting a paper or report for grading.  Both content and presentation are important and should be professional in nature.  Submissions are intended to be thoughtful, concise and applicable to the question or situations presented.   Discussions are graded on all of these these factors.  Correct citation of references (APA format only), quotations, grammar, spelling, are also part of the evaluation.

Instructions:
Select a podcast or posting from one of the sites above.  Suggestions for current issues are listed, but you may see something that interests you more.  Listen or read carefully and then post a maximum 500 word review of the session.  Your posting should describe the session and how it applies to current nursing practice.  Use your texts to investigate the issue.  What does current resources say about the issue?  What are some of the methods to address the issue?  Do you think the methods will work?  Why not?
Each student will start a new thread as their initial posting on each discussion.
Label your initial posting as follows:  Last Name: Title of thread.  For example:  Powell: Compassion, Kindness, and Civility in Medicine
The American Psychological Association (APA) formatting style is used for scientific communications and scholarly writings.  It is used extensively in nursing education.  APA style contains rules for text, citation, referencing, and reporting of data.
This link gives information on the use of APA
https://www.scribbr.com/apa-examples/podcast/
https://www.scribbr.com/category/apa-style/
You also have access to APA formatting rules in Microsoft Word (References>Citations & Bibliography).   APA formatting is required for discussion submissions. You will use it for all aspects of your submission (quotations, reference source citations, etc.).  References should be searchable and the evaluator must be able to locate the source to confirm the information.
Note:  You cannot just cite a source as a referencel  Use the sources you find to support or disprove the podcast or article.  You must include “in-text” citations so that the source can be identified as direct quotes and/or when the thoughts are not yours.  This explains how you used your sources.  For example:  Use of frequent handwashing has been shown to be the major cause of decreased infection rates (Powell, 2021).  OR   Powell (2021) has identified frequent handwashing as a major deterrent in hospital-acquired infections.
Only professional, peer-reviewed sources are appropriate for use in scholarly writing. Potential resources are textbooks, journals, presentations, etc.  and should be nursing oriented.  Use of patient-oriented material is not appropriate.
Once you have posted your initial thread…look at the postings of your peers.  You will need to post a response to 1 of your peers on a topic different from yours.  Your post should be inciteful and give additional information on their issue.  Why do you support or maybe not support their thoughts?  You need to cite for to support your post on this this as well!  The response post should not be more than 250 words.
