Punishment of Convicted Offenders
Keeping in mind the goals of corrections:
Retribution
Deterrence
Incapacitation
Rehabilitation
Select a sentence( punishment) for each of these scenarios. The penalty can range from probation, to life and even all the way to the death penalty. Life imprisonment can be with or without parole.
You should support your sentence recommendation by relying on one or more of the sentencing goals listed above. For instance, if you recommend the death penalty you believe that the person is not redeemable and that deterrence and rehabilitation are not appropriate. Expound on what about the crime makes you feel that way.

During the FIFA championships, a man was left by his common-law wife to care for a one -year old female child. Something was wrong with the child, as she would not stop crying. Bothered by this, the man strangled and beat the child to death. He then placed a large screw to make it seem like she had accidentally choked on it. Realizing what he had done the man called 911. Interviews by police revealed inconsistencies in his statement. The child’s autopsy revealed that she had many old and new bone fractures indicating that she had a long history of physical abuse.
On a Friday, a 13-year-old Alamo youth asked a cousin for a ride to a party in Donna Texas. Either because he was an outsider or because of a gold chain that he was wearing, he was attacked by Alberto Vasquez in front of everyone and beaten to death. He was then skinned and dismembered. His remains were strewn in a field nearby. Relatives helped to dispose of the remains. Vasquez was convicted of first-degree murder. Relatives were convicted of hiding evidence. At the time of the offense, the defendant was 18 years old.
