EBP-Part I: Introduction, Background, and Methods (Total 3-4 pages). (10 pts)
Introduction and Background. Define your practice problem/issue and your population of
interest. Use reliable sources (ie. Government websites, Census Data, etc…) to provide
standardized definitions of your problem and to describe the population of interest. Provide data
to describe the prevalence of the problem in the target and general population. Present your EBP
question in a clear and concise manner. Keep in mind that the purpose of this section is to
educate your reader about your issue and population, and to make the argument for why
your practice problem needs attention. (2 pages)
Methods. (Research Process) Describe how you went about searching for the evidence you
present in the paper. Include your search terms, the names of the search engines/databases you
used, how many studies or articles were available for the problem you identified, and how you
selected the articles which you ultimately included in your paper. A search of the literature must
include scholarly journal articles and pertinent book chapters (your practice textbooks are a
likely source of information), but many include another trustworthy source as well. Emphasis
should be placed on locating and using recent literature and research studies. The inclusion of older
sources (those published prior to 2005) requires an explanation. (1-2 pages)
EBP-Part II: Findings. (10 pts)
Briefly describe and critique two different research studies of the interventions that are used to
address your issue. Include a description of the interventions and a description and critique of
the research studies regarding their effectiveness. Emphasis should be on studies that describe
the effectiveness of an intervention for the problem (these are called evaluation or outcome
studies). Apply the skills you have learned in class to provide a thoughtful critique of the
evaluation research that has been conducted on these interventions (e.g., identify and discuss the
research methodology, identify the studies’ strengths and weaknesses and discuss how they are
important for interpreting the results, discuss issues of internal and external validity and why
they are important, etc.). You are expected to go beyond what the authors provide in the
manuscript and add your own critique. (4-5pages)
EBP Final Paper: (15 pts)
The final version of the EBP Paper should include four basic sections: PART 1: An introduction
that provides the background information and states the thesis of the paper; A methods section
that details the steps you took in finding information and data about the topic, population, and
interventions; PART 2: A findings section that details your results and presents your review of
articles on the outcome and effectiveness of the interventions with the chosen population; and a
PART 3: Conclusion. You will be submitting edited or perhaps re-written versions of your
previous parts one and two for this paper. This is the only time you will be submitting the
conclusion portion. The paper should be submitted as one complete APA style research paper.
Details for the conclusion section are included below.
Conclusion: Make an argument for one intervention approach from those that you presented in
Part II. You will select the intervention that you think presents a supportable solution to your practice problem. The intervention should be relevant to your target population, amenable to
intervention in a clinical setting, and directly addresses your identified problem.
Describe how and why this intervention is the most appropriate for your issue and population.
• What aspects of the supporting research have led you to believe that this intervention will
be successful in practice?
• Assess and describe the fit of this intervention with your client(s). Does it seem
acceptable given what you know about your client’s preference, culture, and values?
Does it require a realistic level of financial and time resources? You are selecting the
best intervention which still may not fit all of your needs so address how well or poorly
the intervention fits.
Conclude your paper by briefly restating your EBP question and your primary findings. Your
conclusion will be strengthened by identifying gaps in the literature and suggesting areas for
additional research. (2-3 pages)
The completed Final EBP paper should be between 9-13 pages not including an APA title
page and Reference page. There should be a minimum of 5 scholarly articles used as
references for this paper, in addition to government websites for the scope and impact of the issue.
EBP Presentation due week 5 (5 Points).
Use the following prompts to prepare a presentation of your EBP research topic and findings.
The presentation should be no more than 5 minutes. You must have PPT slides with key
information that will focus the presentation. Be prepared for questions from the instructor and
your peers.
Introduction and Background.
• Description of issue and population
• Present EBP question
Results.
For each intervention of choice:
• Name and basic description of the intervention
• Sample size, sampling methods
• Research design (data collection methods, procedure)
• Measurements of key variables
• Results of the effectiveness of the intervention
• Strengths and weakness
• Issues of internal and external validity
Conclusion.
• Explain your rationale for choosing one evidence-based practice over the other.
I DON’T KNOW IF I ACCIDENTALLY COPIED THE PP PART INTO THE INSTRUCTIONS BUT I ONLY NEED THE PAPER PART.
TWO OF THE SOURCES HAVE TO BE STUDIES ON SEPARATE INTERVENTION METHODS.
