If you want to have a
chance of securing that dream job, you need to work hard on your cover letter.
The cover letter is where you personally address potential employers and talk
about who you are and what you can do for them.
For this submission, you
will write a cover letter for the resume you created in the previous
assignment. The cover letter will include a heading, salutation, body
paragraphs, and formal closing.
Step 1.
Review the potential job opportunity you used to write your
resume in the last assignment. Research the company/organization to determine
its address and the name of the hiring manager (if possible) and add this
information to the document listing the contents of the job posting from the
previous assignment.
Step 2.

Step 3.
Generate a list of key words from the job description. You will
incorporate these key words into your cover letter.
Step 4.
Compose your cover letter by following these guidelines:
·
Heading (at the top of the page) – name, email address, phone
number, city and state, and LinkedIn URL
·
Salutation – as specific as possible; If you can’t find the
person’s name, use a generic greeting like “Dear Hiring Manager:”
·
Body
o    Start
with an attention-grabbing introduction.
o    Explain
how your unique skills and experiences make you the best fit for the role. Why
are you a perfect match with the job description?
o    Research
the organization. Express enthusiasm for not just the position but the
organization as a whole. How do their mission, vision, and values align with
you? Why is the organization a perfect fit for you?
o    Conclude
the letter by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to apply and include the
best way to contact you to follow-up.
·
Ending – a professional closing like “Thank you,” “Sincerely,”
or “Kind regards,” and your full name
Step 5.
Proofread your letter for typos, grammar errors, and spelling
mistakes. Consider getting feedback from a trusted friend, family member, or
colleague.
Step 6.
Submit two documents to this assignment:
·
the updated document about the job posting (for your
instructor’s reference) and
·
your cover letter.
