Research Topic Summary & Reflection Papers
Objective:
Research a minority (subordinate member or group).
Your research should identify how that minority group or person experienced a social inequalities, injustices, prejudices, discrimination, and/or a hate crime.
You must provide historical examples either from one or more of the chapters from “Racial & Ethnic Groups” combined with one or more of the topics reviewed and discussed in any of the modules whether or not we have started it or not.
Research topics should idealistically focus on an ethnic or minority group in the United States, but you may also provide examples from around the world in order to make connections. Please explain how and why they are relevant to the examples you provided from the United States.
Your research should identify how they have experienced prejudice and discrimination, using historical events and the course textbook to identify their experiences.
Identify how they have endured and become empowered as a people.
Students should outline their topic, identify the prejudice and discrimination the minority has experienced using examples in the past and present: total discrimination.
Your Midterm should be a concise description with informative details on your topic, using only factual data, evidence, and/or statistics relevant to the topic.
Obtain the facts from the assigned article, film, or from designated or relevant chapter/s of your required readings or online resources from in the campus online Library Database.
Use the full text articles and the organizations your group researched collectively.
Apply 10 Key terms ( 5 points) from either the required and recommended readings to help diagnose or identify the types of prejudices and discrimination associated/ related to the assignment topic.
Students may also use their notes or data/materials used during the course lectures, Canvas pages, discussions, and assignments to obtain facts to complete this assignment.
Your midterm paper must be electronically filed as a Word Document or PDF file
Include 2 to 4 images: tables, charts, graphs, newspaper headers, political cartoons, new and/or vintage photographs
Each image has to include a one-sentence caption describing it.
Research Summary: Historical Data Only (Exclude Your Opinion)
Summary Papers:
The objective is to separate Fact from Opinion. “Include only the Facts: names of people or groups, key terms or definitions used, dates, places, events, results of outcomes, data collected from graphs, tables, or charts. It shouldn’t include the instructor’s, the author’s, or your own personal opinion about the subject matter
Students are required to abide by the rubric criteria.
All Summaries should be a 750 to 1000 words summary paper.

Reflection-Analysis Papers:
Your reflection paper is where you will intellectually analyze and deconstruct the content and/or context, where you will decolonize your critical thinking skills and where you will provide your feeling, thoughts, and opinion/s about the material. Students’ reflection paper should address the following points listed below:
Students are required to abide by the rubric criteria.
Identify at least three things you learned while completing this assignment.
Students will explain, describe, identify, and/or translate what s/he/ or they understood, thought, felt, liked, or disliked about the content and context.
Describe how this assignment was relevant to Introduction to Ethnic Studies?
Students will select and list or define key terms associated to the topic that will help him/her to memorize the prejudices and discriminations that was associated or relevant to the assignment or discussion.
All Reflection papers should be between 400 to 600 words.

Cite your sources, illustrations and images in MLA format.

Objective:
The objective is for students to design and construct a lightweight double-sided protest sign with a handle that can be carried at a march, demonstration, non-violent protest, sit-in, walkout, boycott, or all of the above, but that describes, identifies, explains an idea or concept, or justifies your stand or decision on a social justice issue/s relevant to the course or its subject matter.
