Directions
For this journal, you will analyze a culturally significant work and describe how the work shaped cultural values and influenced cultural change. You will focus on a work related to the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. The Supporting Materials section of this assignment provides an example of a creative work along with background on the women’s suffrage movement. You may analyze the example provided or an example of your choice that relates to women’s suffrage.
Specifically, you must address the following:
- Describe how the selected creative work represented what was important to the culture.
- What is the subject of the creative work?
- Who is the audience for the work?
- How does the creator’s choice of medium affect how the work is experienced?
- Describe the cultural change the selected creative work is attempting to influence.
- What is a new way of thinking or acting that is shown in the creative work?
- Explain how an interpretation of the creative work may have shaped the culture at the time it was created.
- Describe the relationship between the selected creative work and today’s society.
- Why would this work be relevant to people today?
- What aspects of the work would not be relevant?
What to Submit
Submit your paper as a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins. No sources are required. However, if you choose to use sources, follow APA citation guidelines when citing sources both throughout your paper and at the end. While you will not be graded on the quality of your citations in this assignment, you may receive guidance from your instructor on how to properly cite sources.
