A. Previews: There are two dates (see schedule) for the preview of draft material for the paper: The first preview (worth 1 mark) must include the following: Profile of the senior

B. The paper outline.
1. Introduction is a general introduction to the paper, outlining what is to come! Also note how the interview came about, how it was done and any relevant information about the interview. Was it conducive to asking questions, was it comfortable for both parties and any other data.
2. Profile of the senior (their name – use initials ONLY, DOB, birthplace, education, occupation prior to retirement, religion, ethnicity, marital status, children). Refer to example.

3. Physical assessment Review Chapter 5 Normal aging changes prior to your visit. Ask questions as they relate to the key areas identified in the chapter. (height, weight, pulse, respiration & BP) [**since this is likely a virtual visit, ask if the client can provide details), eyesight, hearing, ambulation, activities of daily living, health problems
Give details if a health problem exists.
If the client is on medication, list the meds, and research them to identify the purpose of the medications.
4. Intellectual assessment. Refer to Chapter 5 in Eliopoulos (i.e. the five components listed under Changes to the Mind). Discuss each of the 5 areas in detail.
5. Emotional assessment. Does the client experiences any depression? Is the client satisfied spiritually?
6. Capabilities. Is the client accomplishing ADL’s/IADL’s independently? Would the client benefit from Home Care services?
7. Environmental assessment (living arrangements, social support system, caregiver). Are there any risk factors in the environment?
8. Social assessment. Does the client have adequate social interaction with family/friends? Does the client crave more interaction?
9. Spiritual assessment (spiritual belief outside of religion, ways of meeting spiritual needs)
Discussions for 2-9 can be presented in point form like the above example.
Numbers 10, 11 & 12 should be written out clearly in a narrative format. Remember to use APA and cite your references. Include a cover page at the beginning of the paper.
10. Compare and discuss your findings to those from the textbook. Not all seniors are “textbook” identical so note similarities and differences.

Can you identify any learning or physical needs (i.e. ambulation devices, hearing aids, glasses) that the client may require to enhance his/her lifestyle?
Does your client have lifestyle habits that need to be changed to have a healthier life? Have you identified any areas where education would be valuable to this client to promote wellness?
Are the client’s social needs being met? What could the SPN recommend that would increase socialization?
