Instructions: There is ONE question to answer for the final — you can choose between two options. The Essay must be between 500 to 800 words each — 1.5 to 2 pages minimum but no more than 3 pages. The final is worth 25 points and constitutes 25% of your grade for the class.
Read the whole question before answering. I recommend outlining the essay before writing it. Your structure should include proving your thesis statement and writing about the class materials. Use class readings as evidence to support your points. Points for the final will be given when you use the readings to support your points. This is not an opportunity to use examples from your own experience or opinions but rather to show that you did the readings and can use them in an essay.
Any essay with a similarity rate of 20% or higher will be checked by me for similarity to other sources. You must quote (with quotation marks) and cite (APA) the materials you use. I set Turnitin to ignore quotes and references but it sometimes includes these as part of the similarity score. If you see that Turnitin is calculating a higher similarity score based on quotes from readings or citations just ignore it — I will check all the similarity scores over 10% and most of the time it is an error with Turnitin.
According to Turnitin –>, Originality Report generation for submissions is subject to a twenty-four-hour delay. So plan early if you want to check your similarity score before the due date.
Use the readings from the class (note: you can also use the videos or audio) as evidence to support your points. Make sure you use EXAMPLES from the class materials to illustrate your points.
Essays should have a short introductory paragraph, supporting paragraphs, and a short concluding paragraph.
You must have a thesis statement or guiding statement for your essay.
Sentences need to be clearly written and understandable.
Check your paper for spelling and punctuation – errors will result in points off.
Submit the final as ONE document through the Turnitin link found in the last section of CANVAS.
Documents should be double-spaced and use 11 or 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font.
Grading: You will be graded on the following (in order of importance):
using three sources from class to answer question
Provide examples and citations for materials
clear structure of the essay, including strong thesis statement
clear writing
making connections between the readings
proper citation
lack of errors (good grammar, no spelling errors, no typos)
FINAL EXAM Question
1) We did a lot of readings in class around sexuality and race. In your opinion, what is the relationship between sexuality and race? In what ways do we see the relationship between sexuality and race and different forms of power? Take three readings from the class to support your opinion.
