Answer the following questions, based on the Week 14 course materials (lecture/powerpoint, discussion, Cano’s article from the Week 14 Reading page):
Contextualize women’s roles during the Mexican Revolution. How did a woman’s social position (race, class, etc.) influence her range of possible actions during the time? How or why did the Mexican Revolution both highlight traditional gender roles as well as provide possibilities to challenge them?
HOW do we as historians know what we know about women’s roles during the Mexican Revolution? Choose at least TWO sources from this week’s course materials (lecture, discussion, Cano’s article) and explain HOW these sources help us study the history of women during the Mexican Revolution. What can we learn directly from studying such sources?
How do the life and historical representations of Amelio Robles emphasize the process of remembering the Mexican Revolution? Describe the two main “versions” of his life as portrayed in Cano’s article. Why does Cano say he has been remembered in such dramatically different ways? Make sure you incorporate and analyze a direct quotation from Cano’s article as support for your claim in this paragraph.
Tip: start each paragraph with a topic sentence that answers the question, use the rest of the paragraph to analyze evidence to support your point.
You will need to incorporate evidence from lecture/discussion as well as Cano’s article.
When you quote any source, the next sentence should follow up with your analysis/explanation of the historical significance of the quotation. (This quotation shows…)
To cite sources: when you quote something or give information from the article put the author’s last name and page number in parenthesis at the end of your sentence. Examples:
“Quotation.” (Cano 180)
Sentence with a piece of information from the source. (Cano 185) OR (Class discussion, April 25) OR (Lecture, April 23)
Citations are essential! A citation shows that you have support for your own claims AND what sources have influenced your ideas. You need to give a citation for direct quotations AND for paraphrases of ideas. You will likely have multiple citations in each paragraph.
Grading
Complete answers will have at least THREE paragraphs, one for each of the sets of questions given above. You must incorporate lecture/discussion citations as well as quotation/reference to Cano’s article.
Responses without appropriate quotations AND citations will earn half credit or less.
You will be graded on the quality of your answers and how well you incorporate required course material. See the attached rubric. You must submit your response by Sunday, April 28, by 11:59 pm.
