Determine which cultural festival you would like to explore. You may choose one of the festivals on the list below or find your own cultural festival to learn about. Please email me of you plan on exploring a cultural festival that is not on this list.
Before exploring the festival you chose, do some research in the Citrus College Library Database on the culture that will be highlighted in the festival and answer the following questions:
What does this culture value?
What language does this culture speak?
What are some common traditions and rituals experienced by this culture?
What are some popular foods and dishes commonly enjoyed by people in this culture
Learn about the festival, watch videos, documentaries, look for articles and pictures (keep track of the useful information you find so you can cite it in your paper and summary for your classmates). Observe types of food that are eaten, activities carried out, and types of clothing that are worn. You will need to include at least four images, articles or videos of the festival to help your classmates get a sense of what it is like to experience the festival (at least one-video must be included in your post).
After you have finished exploring the festival online or in-person, you are ready to write a you are ready to write a 3-5 page summary of your experience (include at least threescholarly sources in your discussion—utilize sources in the Citrus College Library—avoid getting information from search engines such as “Google” you are more likely to get credible, scholarly information from the Citrus College Library).
Your paper should provide an overview of the culture you chose to focus on and include:
Discussion of language or languages that are commonly spoken within this culture, values, traditions, beliefs of this culture
Explanation of where a majority of persons from this culture live
When the festival takes place
Why the festival takes place
Where the festival takes place
Explain at least four examples of the cultural festival that you reviewed (video clips, articles, pictures, etc) include a link to each of the four examples—including at least one video.
What you learned about this culture that surprised you
How your perception of this culture changed
