PURPOSE
This assignment aims to help the student search through the literature and select evidence-based literature to help translate science-based knowledge into practice to improve healthcare. The student will compare quantitative and qualitative research articles to determine how theory and research are linked and how translational science and evidence-based practice principles are transforming healthcare. Additionally, the student will explore the difference and similarities between qualitative and quantitative and how each can address a healthcare issue.
ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE
 Demonstrate an understanding of the different levels of evidence.
COURSE OUTCOMES
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:
 Compare and contrast the difference and similarities with selected characteristics of quantitative research designs.
 Evaluate the appropriateness of qualitative research design for a specific clinical practice question.
 Explore how to formulate and refine clinical research questions relevant to advanced nursing practice.
 Differences and similarities with selected characteristics of qualitative and quantitative research designs.
 Differentiate between quality improvement, system change, research, and/or evidence-based practice initiatives.
 Interpret the principles of translational science and evidence-based practice
 Employ an evidence-based practice model for quality improvement.

DUE DATE: Submit to the Moodle by Saturday of the end Week 3 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
POINTS: This assignment is worth a total of 100 points.

REQUIREMENTS

1. To complete this assignment please find one qualitative and one quantitative scholarly article related to a healthcare issue of your choice.

1. Submit a 4 – 6 pages APA-formatted paper:
a. Include an Introduction section that indicates the purpose of the paper
b. Identify how you addressed the issue of interest in two different articles (qualitative vs. quantitative)
c. Compare and contrast the articles concerning to:
1. Purpose of the Research Study
2. Research Question(s) and how it relates to the topic and healthcare issue of your choice
3. Sampling Process and Sample Size
4. Evaluate the appropriateness of qualitative and quantitative research design for a specific clinical practice question. Elaborate on which model of scholarly sources from qualitative and quantitative, or mix method you are planning on using to address the issue of your choice
5. Elaborate on how you could translate the research question/guidelines/ or recommendation and conclusion of the scholarly articles in your possible practicum site setting.
6. Elaborate on the differences between quality improvement, system change, research, and/or evidence-based practice initiatives
 To complete this application, you will need to access to the Miami Regional College virtual library database. Following databases: CINAHL Complete Database, MEDLINE Complete Database, LIRN, and so forth. Our Librarian is available to help on campus from Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 9:00 pm & Saturday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

 This assignment is worth 100 points and will be graded on the required components as summarized in the directions and grading criteria/rubric.
 Create your manuscriipt using the version of Microsoft Word. You can tell that the document is saved as a MS Word document because it will end in “.docx”

 The paper’s length will be between 4-6 pages, excluding the title and reference pages.
