Create one initial post and respond to at least two of your classmates.
For your initial post, address the following:
First, identify a community of your choice of which you consider yourself a member. For example, a community might be your own town, city, or rural area. For this discussion, it doesn’t have to be where you live now. It can be somewhere you lived in the past, or it can be a community with which you are familiar.
If you prefer, you may discuss a fictional community from a movie, television show, book, or other work that revolves around a community.
Then, describe a movement for positive change and two creative works from the community that illustrate the movement. (For a fictional community, the movement will most likely be demonstrated through the actions of the characters.)
What was the result of the movement for positive change?
How do the works illustrate the movement?
For your response posts, address the following:
Do you agree with your peer about how the works they identified illustrate the movement? Why, or why not?
Are your cultural norms challenged by the movement your peer identified? If so, how? (Consider your perspective about the movement and whether you would be involved.)

The community that I am a part of is the town where I live. However, the town has a history of being exclusive to white farmers of German or Swedish descent, which made it challenging for people from diverse backgrounds to feel included. Despite this, our community has made significant efforts in the last 15 years to promote inclusivity and cultural diversity.
One initiative that helped in this regard is constructing a community square. Additionally, the community started a program called “Neighborhood Nights,” which offers various cultural events suitable for all ages and abilities. These events occur on Friday nights from May through September and include outdoor movies, family games, concerts, cuisine experiences, and artistic exhibits. These events have strengthened our sense of belonging and community camaraderie.
Another recent initiative is a “Spotlight” display in a dedicated area of town. The display features a rotating exhibit from community members. Sometimes, the theme is Military Service, Artists, Producers (agricultural), etc. During the rotation, the display contains photos of members with descriptions of their contributions to the community, state, or country. This opportunity has increased community members’ knowledge about others in our town and publicly acknowledges the vital role we can all play.
