Q1. From the point of view of conflict theory, how are capitalism and deviance related?
Q2. What are the major approaches to crime control? Describe each in detail.
Q3. Hirschi’s control theory assumes that deviance, or its absence, can best be explained by strong social bonds. What aspects of social bonds does Hirschi think are important? How might each of those aspects affect the probability of deviance?
Q4. Briefly outline the strain theory of deviance. What kinds of social policy would we need to enact if we were to get really serious about decreasing the impact of what Merton calls “innovation” in contemporary American culture?
Q5: How do the differential association and labeling perspectives attempt to explain deviant behavior? What are the factors that influence whether or not an act is viewed as deviant from each of these perspectives?
