QUICK SPECS: 2,250-3,000 words (7-10 pages) with at least five credible sources, four of which are academic journal articles) in APA format
Students will individually or in pairs conduct research and write an observational research paper with the following sections. If you are working with a partner, please email me along with your partner to let me know and I’ll offer you some additional instructions.
Please read the example before starting. It offers an example of what you need to do in order to successfully complete the project; you’re welcome to use it as a template for creating your own, too.
Cover Page
This should be in APA format.
Executive Summary
1 page, single-spaced. This is a short overview of the paper that summarizes the key findings and recommendations. (Don’t try to write this first–you should complete the paper in order to complete this section.)
Introduction (Literature Review)
About 2 pages, double-spaced–or about 600 words. Explain why the topic is important. Share at least 4 academic journal articles here. This section is for the purpose of summarizing other research that exists about the topic and explaining how your research that you’re about to go do will contribute to the existing information.
Methodology
1-2 pages, double-spaced–300-500 words. Explain how the research was conducted (do not use first person like “I” here). How often was the research conducted? What was the frequency? Is that suggestion backed by any of the research that was already considered in the literature review?
Analysis [indicator table & findings chart required]
Table–2-3 pages. The table should have questions grouped into 3-4 categories: the example has 4. There should be at least 20 questions in the table that you develop to answer. Use the table in the example as a model. This section discusses the information that you find during the observation process through a table and a chart. Both of these elements are required.
Outcomes and Recommendations
2-3 pages, double-spaced–or about 600-750 words. Share in sentence format the information found in the table. Use subheadings of “Strengths,” “Weaknesses,” and “Recommendations” to talk about how well your subject meets criteria based on your project (ex., if you’re observing the accessibility of a website, you would note what it does well in “strengths” and what it could improve on in “weaknesses.” Then, offer at least three recommendations in paragraph form that would share what could be done to improve on the weaknesses.
Conclusion
In one paragraph, re-summarize and share information that explains the importance of this to the greater community or in the future.
