As part of the requirements for English 206, each student will read a novel and write a paper incorporating research. Like the exam and/or essay grade given for each of the three literary periods that we will study, this assignment is worth 100 pts. (out of 525 pts. total for the class). The following guidelines will be used for this term paper:
1. Select one of the following novels (one per literary period):
A. Romantic Period–Mary Shelley, Frankenstein
2. View study session videos for the book you are reading.
3. Write your paper, using current MLA standards. Your works cited page must contain a minimum of 7 sources with named authors. Use parenthetical citations (not footnotes or endnotes) following MLA guidelines. See me if you have any questions about research paper format; I will also be happy to review a draft of your paper before it is turned in for grading but only if the draft is submitted to me no later than 5/15/2024.
4. Your paper ( 10-12 pages) should cover the following areas (not necessarily in this order, but in these proportions):
A. Biographical information (approx. 2 pages) giving a succinct overview of pertinent events in the life and writing career of the author
B. Discussion of the novel (approx. 5 pages) giving a brief overall summary and followed by in-depth analysis of important themes, characters, techniques, etc.
C. Examination of the novel’s significance and its relationship to the period in which it was written (approx. 3 pages).
DUE DATE: MONDAY, June 3rd, 11:59pm
Note: Any papers turned in with an incomplete or inaccurate works cited page WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
