3 Point Foundation: Do a research project on “Does participation in sports increase academic success” or “What Social Skills are Developed Through Participation in Sports” or “What are best practices of sports based after school programs?” 3 Point Foundation’s website is www.3pointfoundation.org
History and Philosophy: The 3Point Foundation was founded in 2012 with encouragement from members of the Boston Celtics ownership group. We now operate a variety of after school and summer programs which include basketball as a way to teach resiliency, perseverance and team work. We emphasize the importance of character and academics to the achievement of success in school and life. We try to encourage boys to develop the habits which lead to achievement. We work as teachers, mentors and tutors to facilitate the skills necessary to succeed at learning. Finally, we seek to inspire boys to pursue college graduation as a realistic goal by showing them pathways to college. We believe in the words of Martin Luther King Jr. that the true goal of education is “intelligence plus character.”
The Mission and Goals: Our mission is to change the lives of boys in the Boston Public Schools by fostering academic achievement and character development.
Our goal is to provide pathways, programs, enrichment, inspiration, resources and support to boys in 5th – 8th grade, leading to academic and social success.
