May 5, 2024

Final text due before class on Friday 10 May 2024 (sessions 28+29). With the aim of being informed about the topic you have chosen for your exhibition, this task consists in writing an individual text (1000-1500 words) of research on a theme.
In addition to this academic research on the topic, some classwork and homework will be set to develop the exhibition project (in groups and/or individually). In this way, by session 30, the project will conclude in class, with a selection of artworks, objects and/or performances to be included in the show.
1) Purpose
Choose a topic from the given list and plan a piece of research on a particular idea that you want to focus on.
Imagine this text is going to be published in an exhibition catalogue, alongside other essays on different aspects of the same topic. You are the expert in your field, and the research you do is a necessary part of planning the exhibition.
2) Length
1000 to 1500 words (excluding the reference list and appendix).
The length of the paper is not an indicator of quality. Effective writing is precise, with no redundant, pointless, or self-evident information. Repetitive ideas and waffle/prattle will result in points being deducted. Like solving a Rubik’s cube, enjoy putting words together for a streamlined and smooth result.
3) Structure
3.1 Introductory Paragraph
Present the topic of research. If you want, you can write in the first person, and include personal ideas and viewpoints.
3.2 Body Paragraphs (3 to 5 paragraphs)
Each body paragraph must contain useful information that brings awareness on some aspect of the topic. Typically, each paragraph will reference several sources (with correct in-text citations, in APA7 style). Where needed, begin and end with transitions (guide ideas from one paragraph to the next).
3.3 Conclusion – summarize the research and conclude.
4) Sources researched
A minimum of 5 credible sources are expected, for example newspapers and art magazines. At least 1 of the sources must be an article from a reputable academic journal. Research on minority cultures may be harder to find, and this added difficulty will be taken into account when evaluating. Sources can be in any language you speak.
Find diverse evidence. Get different perspectives, to present a rounded view.
Incorporate the evidence into the essay with in-text citations that comply with APA 7 guidelines https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/citations.
Reference list on a separate page (in alphabetical order, APA style 7th edition) https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references.
5) Formatting
Effort to present the document with great attention to detail will be rewarded.
However, design and formatting that obstructs the reading will be penalized.
6) Appendix: A.I. DISCLAIMER
The use of Artificial Intelligence is not forbidden, but it is not encouraged, on the grounds that it rarely helps to develop creativity and research skills. In all cases, an Appendix must be included, to disclose any use of Chat GPT or any other AI tools, including Grammarly, used during the process of research and writing, whether or not you integrate the output generated by the tool.
At the end of your essay, after the Reference List, include an Appendix titled A.I. DISCLAIMER. On this page, list all the Artificial Intelligence tools you have used. Explain what you used them for, and paste the prompts you inputted, plus how you used the text it generated.
If you didn’t use any AI tools at all, you are still required to include this Appendix, but specify “no AI tools used”.
