The purpose of this assignment is enable you to formulate into writing your analysis of visual representations of ethos, pathos and logos, and how these rhetorical appeals are used to persuade. Refer to the Overview of the Rhetorical Analysis Essay for specific details on the content of each paragraph.
Topic
Using the same advertisement from the Ads of the World website that you selected for Assignment 2.2, analyze the advertiser’s use of ethos, pathos and logos while taking into consideration the advertiser’s intended audience. All three rhetorical appeals must be present in the advertisement.

Write three support paragraphs, one for each rhetorical appeal (ethos, pathos, and logos). Include relevant specific examples from the ad and discuss whether the appeals are used effectively.
End with a strong conclusion that discusses the overall effect of the ad with regard to ethos, pathos, and logos. Restate your thesis in a different wording and sum up what the reader should take away from the essay.
Use in-text citations for evidence from the advertisement.

Choose a Topic
For this assignment, you will develop a written script for a 3-5 minute podcast (about 450-650 words). Your podcast can be just you speaking alone, an interview with a friend or family member, a panel interview where you talk to 3 or 4 people, or even in play format with several characters. Choose one of these topics for your podcast.
Music Genre, Artist, or Album: Write a podcast script in which you will teach your audience about a specific music genre, artist, or album. Using the rhetorical devices, persuade your listeners that the genre, artist, album is noteworthy. (You may include musical examples, but if the music is copyrighted, you may not use more than a 30 second clip for educational purposes.)
Dream Job: Write a podcast script in which you will teach your audience about aspects of your dream job. For example, if you want to be a marine biologist, persuade your listeners that marine biology is an excellent career, using the rhetorical devices.
College Success Skills: Write a podcast script in which you will teach your audience about college success skills. Refer to the skills you learned in the last unit (avoiding procrastination and plagiarism, learning a new writing process to avoid writer’s block, developing time management skills). Using the rhetorical devices, persuade your listeners that these skills will promote future success.
Do Research
Find at least three (3) credible sources to include in your podcast.

Plan how your will incorporate and use these sources to support your ideas and to provide evidence. You will use quotations, statistics, and other salient information from these sources in your podcast.

Draft a Script
Beginning: Begin the script with the title and date of the podcast. Introduce the topic and the speakers in an inviting and engaging way.

Ending: End with brief thoughtful comments to wrap up the show and remind the audience of your main claim. Thank your guest(s) for the interview and thank the audience for listening. Add a music or audio clip in your closing.
Format the Script
Format the text of your script like the one you looked at for the podcast “The Haunting Effects of Going Days Without Sleep.”Links to an external site.
Sources: Add a MLA formatted Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your script. Include MLA formatted citations for all sources, including the sound bites.
Sound: Include 2-3 sound bites in the script. Indicate where each sound bite will be in the script. Use parentheses to show the sound location and include a description of the sound, for example (Sound bite of Applause).

Create an MLA formatted Annotated Bibliography that lists and annotates at least FIVE independently researched scholarly and/or critical articles on the topic you have chosen to write about. Develop a tentative thesis statement. Write your thesis above your annotations.

Overview: Argument Research Paper
In previous assignments, you have read, viewed, researched and discussed materials related to your chosen topic. Now you will develop an 800 plus word argument research paper on your topic. Your essay will include a clear thesis and well developed key ideas with topic sentences and supporting examples. The essay will also follow the conventional organization of the three elements of introduction, body and conclusion.
Essay Development
Introduction: A good introduction needs to get your reader interested in your topic, provide relevant background information for that topic and, in a thesis statement, state the main points that support your claim (stance) about the topic. Your thesis should be the last sentence in the introduction paragraph.
Body: Write a minimum of three support paragraphs. As this is an extended research essay, each main idea may need to be developed into more than one body paragraph.
