I’m writing to let you know that you need to change your paper topic. I specifically told students not to write about the KKK. I reiterated that when you submitted your paper topic.(see the comment made on your topic in the comment section April 9) When I read your rough draft, you still hadn’t changed the topic. If you choose not to change the topic, I will take off 15 points for not following the instructions.
Introduction- This should be a brief overview of the entire paper: what is the topic? Why is this topic a social problem/ what is the need for the law? What theory will be used to discuss the topic? [1 page-15 points]
General Discussion of specific topic (protected class, group or laws) [2 pages-25 points]
Clearly define the behavior, group or laws being researched.
Prevalence of behavior/group oppression/group membership
Age, race, sex, etc of the group for which you are writing
Detailed discussion of the crime theory- essential principles, assumptions and limitations of the crime theory and how it applies to the bias motivation under consideration [1-2 pages-30]
Conclusion – what is the specific group being investigated, where are they, how prevalent, what is the criminological theory and how does it explain the bias behavior directed at the specific group? [ 1 page-15 points]
APA Format-you must cite any information that you didn’t already know—if are using exact words—use quotation marks and cite properly. If you are summarizing the idea, you still need to cite it properly. The only thing in your paper not requiring a citation is that which comes from your own brain! 4 academic journal articles and 4 alternate sources [15 points]

Please read through the research paper instructions and requirements. Think of some aspect of hate crimes that you are interested in. Is it laws? hate groups? bias in general, against a particular group? Once you read through the instructions for the paper, and consider what you are interested in, I can better help you to focus your topic.
