You may choose from any of the following activities (or suggest your own ideas) to complete your Community Praxis assignments. Please note that for your second praxis, you MUST SELECT A DIFFERENT ACTIVITY THAN YOU DID FOR YOUR FIRST PRAXIS.
Activity ideas:
Attend an activity (in-person or online)
Volunteer at a local non-profit
Engage in a cultural activity/experience (family events can also count!)
Talk to an elder who imparts wisdom related to culture, race, ethnicity, religion, etc. (can be done in person or over the phone or zoom)
Explore a museum
Participate in a march or rally
If you have transportation limitations or health-related issues that prevent you from going to public places, you may also choose from the below options (however, I HIGHLY encourage students to engage in in-person activities as much as possible):
Explore an online resource that supports community liberation and social justice
Read an essay or reflection on culture
Take a critical look at images in online platforms or blogs
Write a new poem or blog
Your submission should be a clearly written paper (500 words or 2 pages double-spaced) that answers EACH of the following questions:
What was the activity or event?
When did you participate in this event or experience?
Why did you choose to do this as one of your Community Praxis assignments?
Describe the significance or other details about the activity or event.
AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY:
What did you learn from participating in this activity or event?
How does this activity or event connect to lessons you’ve learned in our class? Be explicit in making these connections by referring to specific titles of articles, videos, TEDTalks, book chapters, instructor lectures, etc. when describing how your experience connects to your course learnings.
