May 2, 2024

To complete this exam, compose a 3 to 5 page, double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman in APA
format response on the below topic. The page limit does not include Cover Page or Works
Cited/Reference page. You should use 6-10 valid sources, outside of ones provided in class. These
papers should be written as Research papers and in third person (no first person) and in a professional
manner.
You should focus your efforts on finding sources other than the ones we discussed in class like peer reviewed journal articles. Other resources you use should be professional in nature (academic or professional sources)
All papers must have in-text/parenthetical citations. All absolute statements must have data and evidence to back up statements. Your sources should be valid. I know I have said a million times to use peer reviewed journal articles. Again, seek help from the library if needed. You should not have ALL websites as sources. Obviously, some are ok, but not all
-Choose a case study OR case studies to use as the subject for your paper.
-Refer back to the topics we have discussed in class.
-Use sources and information from Oklahoma
You will be answering the below questions so keep that in mind when you make your selection.
Case 1:
Tom, male age 32, has a spouse and children, history of depression. Tom was arrested for a DUI,
first offense.
Case 2:
Jennifer, female age 44, single and employed, history of anxiety. Jennifer was arrested after
being accused of beating up her spouse, but she said it was self defense after years of domestic
violence.
Case 3:
Stevie, age 63, found wandering around not speaking clearly. The police were called for
“suspicious activity” and Stevie was brought to jail overnight.
The overall purpose of your paper is to discuss how mental health, criminal justice, substance use, or all
of the above are portrayed in your selected case study. You can discuss all 3, just 2, or even just 1 of
them in your paper.
The cases have been left vague so that you can use the different topics from class. Feel free add any
additional information, but do not make this the focus on your paper. Also, DO NOT focus on diagnosis
of mental health. You obviously, can mention, but there is no need to explain in any detail about mental
health diagnosis of the individual.
Using the information from Oklahoma, consider the following to discuss in your paper:
– You can focus on the entire state and use different examples or focus on a particular area.
– How often does something like this case happen?
– What academic literature sources help to show these issues exist in your state and/or the
United States?
– What stigmas could this person face?
– What happens after this person was arrested?
– What programs exist that will benefit this individual?
o Mental Health
o Substance Use if applicable
o Criminal Justice
– What obstacles could this person face?
– If they were successful/unsuccessful in a specific program, what would be the outcome?
– How would life be for this person when, or if, they return from jail?
– What is the possibility of recidivism?
– Is there any other program from another state or even a country that could be helpful to this
person or persons?
Remember to be writing this as a full research paper. It should flow together as a full item. Do not just
answer the questions without context.
Essentially, you are telling the story of someone who is put through the criminal justice system with a
mental illness. There are SEVERAL ways this could happen and several outcomes. Show how things could
work out for the individual or what obstacles they may face. With citations and links from the articles
