Type of project: Annotated Bibliography followed by brief
reflective paper
Follow these directions fully and directly:
For this annotated bibliography you must find two articles
on the CSI Library Database that discuss some aspect of Chaucer’s sections on the
Wife of Bath. The
articles should share a similar focus regarding the text and /or
intervention [see below].
Read the article taking notes and do the following:
1.Provide a summary of the focus of each article. For
each, write between 450-550 words. Select and cite two quotes from the article
either for this section and or for what’s required in #2. THE QUOTES MUST BE
BRIEF [no more than 6 lines each cited as MLA requires for that genre, i.e., if
it’s a poem or a play].
2.For each, identify the author’s main point, what we call in
the field of English literature “*the intervention.” [see below] This
means there is a professional conversation about the topic and the author is
providing a point of view, a new idea, or making some sort of intellectual
contribution that you must identify. Have this analytical part of the
annotated bibliography follow the summary. The author sometimes alludes to
their focus/intervention early in their article.
3. Employing MLA format, provide the full bibliographical
information of the article, which is everything including names, title,
journal, year, edition, volume number, and pages, and any online link.
4. THEN ADD A THREE TO FIVE PAGE DISCUSSION OF HOW THESE
ARTICLES HAS AFFECTED YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF AN IDEA IN THE LITERARY TEXT AND
YOUR  ENGAGEMENT WITH THE IT. ADD AN MLA WORKSS CITED SHEET
HERE.
*What is an intervention in a literary journal article?
An intervention can be thought of as the critic’s participation
or informed point of view by using research and analysis in a professional
argument about a literary work.    For example, there has been
much conversation about how Chaucer treats gender in the Wife of Bath sections
in The Canterbury Tales. Each critic’s article or book is an
intervention in the professional conversation.
