USDA Requirements: What are the inspection requirements for livestock prepared to be used as human food? What are pathogen reduction/HACCP requirements?
Import Restrictions: Research and report on at least one case in which imported livestock or food products from livestock failed to meet USDA requirements. In particular, describe what the U.S. action was, how the foreign country responded to the U.S action, and how the problem was ultimately resolved, if ever. Alternatively, you can research a case in which U.S. food did not meet the requirements of a foreign nation, answering the same questions with regard to the foreign country’s action and the United States response. Examples of subjects of interest could include contamination with “mad cow disease,” recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), melamine in Chinese infant formula, or rules on genetically modified food (aka, GMOs, genetically modified organisms).
