Students will conduct research on a career they are interested in. Students must have at least one other source. This may be a personal interview with someone who currently works in the career field or any appropriate The Super Strong Career Assessment you completed earlier in this class is also a good choice for a source.
No more than three sources are appropriate.
Students must have a reference slide at the end of their presentation or reference the source verbally during the presentation. In addition, they should include a References page at the end of the paper.
IMPORTANT:
Students may address some of the following questions in their projects:
What top three career areas did the student consider and research? Why did the student choose this career field to present? What decision-making process was followed? What sources of motivation were at work in the decision?
What is required for this career field? Does the career require a degree? What options are there for beginning in the career field?
What action steps have been identified by the student to attain success in this field? (This should be more than just getting the degree.)
How much does it pay for people starting out? What is the pay for someone in this field for many years? What is the average pay? How does Oklahoma rank compare to the average?
How does the decision fit with the student’s values, interests, and self-knowledge? What aspects of life will the career probably not satisfy? How will the student establish boundaries to ensure other personal needs are considered and met?
What is the outlook for the future of this career? Is this career field projected to continue or to grow? Will this career field likely change in the future?
What are some challenges within this career field? How do people who work in this career field describe it?
