During my three years as a nurse aide. One night in the rehab unit where I worked, I encountered a critical situation when one of our nurses had an emergency and had to leave unexpectedly. This left me, another aide, and a nurse responsible for 20 patients. Without hesitation, I stepped up to take charge of prioritizing patient care. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, I immediately assessed each patient’s needs. My first priority was addressing any pain or discomfort experienced by patients, ensuring they received prompt attention and appropriate care. Simultaneously, I swiftly assisted patients who required help getting to the bathroom, understanding the importance of timely assistance for those in recovery who couldn’t mobilize independently. This experience demanded quick decision-making and effective coordination to ensure all patients received the care they needed without delay. By efficiently prioritizing tasks and working collaboratively with the team, we maintained a high standard of care even during unexpected staffing challenges. Handling this crisis reinforced my leadership skills and ability to remain composed under pressure. I learned the importance of adaptability, communication, and decisive action in delivering quality patient care. These experiences have further fueled my passion for nursing and prepared me to excel in challenging healthcare environments.
Essay Question #3 Courage, resiliency, and an ability to overcome adversity are important characteristics for success in the College of Nursing. Describe a time when you were faced with a difficult situation. How did these traits contribute to successfully achieving your goals?
During my childhood, my mother experienced seizures, which was a terrifying and confusing experience for me. Witnessing her seizures filled me with fear and uncertainty, but it also instilled in me a sense of responsibility and a desire to ensure her well-being. One day, when my mother had a seizure while doing my hair, I remained calm and took quick action, knowing exactly what to do to help her. This experience taught me the importance of being prepared and resilient in the face of adversity. My mother’s health challenges fueled my determination to provide her with the best care possible and to advocate for her needs. This sense of responsibility and commitment to her well-being has translated into my desire to become a nurse and provide compassionate care to others in need. I believe that every patient deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and trust, and I am committed to upholding these values in my future career as a nurse. My ability to remain courageous, resilient, and determined in the face of difficult situations has shaped me into a stronger individual and will undoubtedly contribute to my success in the College of Nursing.

My experiences in healthcare have truly solidified my passion for becoming a nurse. Despite the challenges and stress that can come with the job, there are always moments that remind me of why I chose this path. The gratitude and appreciation from patients when I am able to provide comfort and care during difficult times is truly heartwarming. It is in these moments that I feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that I am making a difference in someone’s life. The opportunity to alleviate pain, whether physical, emotional, or mental, is a privilege that I do not take for granted. These experiences have only fueled my desire to become a nurse and continue to positively impact the lives of others.
