Assignment Background and Description: Infographics are a very powerful tool to convey a lot of data in short form; in HSEM infographics can be leveraged to disseminate vital, condensed information to community because they are small, focused, and easily accessible to wide range of audiences. For example, after heavy flooding, one might compile an infographic on basic facts and actions to take with debris, damaged goods and/or contaminants. In security domain, infographics can relay information about steps to ensure security at workplace, facts on workplace violence in a certain industry followed by protective actions to take, etc.
In order to practice the skill of creating an infographic, you are asked to design and produce one related to theories discussed in class this past semester with critical elements applicable to HSEM. This infographic might be used at (a) local emergency management or homeland security-related business to underscore the importance of professional development of leaders in HSEM, ongoing education, and importance of reflective practice or (b) advertising of the course to future students to illuminate the most relevant blocks of theories in HSEM contexts.
The key message to communicate is the diversity of theories past and present applicable under various conditions and contexts and addressing different aspects of safety and security leadership. You may complement the theories with information from other readings (e.g., on employee satisfaction in the Department of Homeland Security, incivility rates at a workplace, or any other statistical data that can be related to presence or absence of good leadership in HSEM or some leadership failure bullet points from the past). Your visual should identify the name of the theory, its basic principles or focus and what it might teach a leader, types of contexts in HSEM for which it might be applicable, and aforementioned statistics or trends at the minimum (you do not have to include every single theory we covered during the semester, but you need to have at least 6 (i.e., 75%) and of course you may include more. Include a title on the infographic. Include a reference list in APA format at the bottom of the infographic. Include your name at the bottom of the infographic. Upload a copy to Blackboard by May 8th by midnight.
