an essay/Rewrite of at least eight pages (2000 words) that responds to the following
question:
Jarausch writes that much of the late twentieth
century in Europe was characterized by an “unforeseen cultural revolt against modernity
and the transition to postindustrial society” and well as challenges due to
increasing globalization (15). What
evidence supports his claim? Also
consider Henri Alleg’s The Question, Jenni Diski’s The Sixties,
and the other materials listed on the syllabus after March 18 when writing your
answer. Use only these sources no online or outside sources. Below I have attatched the term paper that needs much revision/rewriting. Here are the comments I recieved on the paper,
Several things struck me when reading your draft. The first is that although you have some good ideas in your thesis and in the introduction, they are not necessarily reflected in the rest of your paper. For example, only Diski’s book speaks to “culture.” Otherwise, the themes you discuss are decolonization, the 1960s, and globalization, and your thesis should reflect this.
You give good summaries of Alleg and Diski, but this paper is not supposed to be a book review. You need to provide a larger context for decolonization and the 1960s and also talk about the changes they led to.
You should only use sources that we have used in class for this paper. You cite three works that we did not use, nor is it clear how they are at all relevant to your argument.
In terms of the writing, several of your paragraphs are far too long. If they exceed a page, you should sub-divide them. I also marked several awkward passages and typos (e.g. “Allen” instead of “Alleg”). Make sure to make enough time to properly edit the final draft.
