In chapter one, we identified leaders and management and why they are essential to an organization. Also, we discussed the need for an identified mission and organizational values and linked them to the public perception of their police officers. In chapter two, we reviewed some dynamics associated with organizational culture and its effect on management. Chapter three touched on some of the significant roles of a chief administrator and how their actions shape the agency and contribute to the morale within. Chapter Four brought us to conflict management and the art of negotiation, and chapter five helped us understand the nature of organizational and group conflict. Officer rights, discipline, and liability proved sobering as we explored police officer rights, limitations of legally accepted behaviors, and legislative (local, state, federal) laws mandating adherence. For those who stray, chapter seven introduced us to police unions and how collective bargaining influences the workplace. As ethics and accountability sometimes become blurred, chapter nine reminds us of their relationship to policing.
