You will design (but not conduct) a science experiment based on the scientific method. The experiment must be related to the biological sciences. Refer to the experimental design notes in the files on Canvas and chapter 1 from the book. Your paper must be 3-5 pages of text (not including title page or citations). Your paper must be written in a non-technical style so that it could be understood by those unfamiliar with the topic.
Your paper must be in APA format (do not include an abstract). See the RESEARCH GUIDES in the Pages tab for a link to the SWTJC library for help with APA format.
Your research must be paraphrased (do not copy and paste). Do not use direct quotes from sources. Plagiarism or use of AI will result in a failing grade. Software will be used to check for both.
You must Include all of the following steps of the scientific method:
State your purpose
Perform a literature review– Include background information relevant to your study as well as summaries of any other related experiments that have been done. Your research must be based on a two to five sources. Your paper must include internal citations of sources and your sources must be cited at the end of the essay. See the DATABASES in the Pages tab for a link to the SWTJC library databases. Sources must be reliable and accessible (do not use Wikipedia).
Formulate a hypothesis
Explain how to perform your experiment (you must include experimental and control groups in your design. This must be a controlled experiment and not a demonstration)
Do not include a list of materials (include any materials in your description)
Describe thoroughly and in paragraph form your experiment (do not list steps). Provide enough details that someone else would be able to exactly repeat the experiment
Include a description of how you would collect data (describe what data you would collect and how you would present it)
Do not include data/results or conclusions/interpretations
