GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
Title: Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information retrieval systems.
Author(s): Indicate the name(s), affiliation(s), and address(s). You are the author, Oklahoma State University is the affiliation, and Stillwater 74078 is the address.
Highlights: Consist of a short collection of bullet points that capture the novelty of your Review.
Abstract: All reviews should be prefaced with a 100–120 word abstract. The abstract is essential. It should contain sufficient information for the reader to appreciate the relevance of the entire article when read alone. It should include background information and specific examples of recent advances rather than promises that a particular subject ‘will be discussed’ – the scope of the Review should instead appear at the end of the Introduction: no References and Abbreviations.
Introduction: The Introduction should be accessible to a wide variety of scientists by avoiding the use of jargon and concepts not familiar to non-specialists. It should outline the period covered and the scope of the Review, including the importance and rationale behind your article. The Introduction should include only a few background references. The use of INFOGRAPHICS is encouraged in the Introduction and discouraged in the main Text of the Review.
Main Text of the Review: Uses concise, logical subheadings to provide clear links between the sections and guide the reader through your Review. Please write all abbreviations in full on first use and use the acronym afterward. The easiest way to write the main Text of the review article is to complete the following steps:
Read all the suggested research articles (6 or 8, depending on the topic). Select research articles you will include in your Review (you must choose at least 4).
Develop an OUTLINE (Bullet Point List) of essential findings and conclusions. To prepare the outline, visit the PAPER OUTLINE assignment. Creating a meaningful bullet point list for each article is critical to writing a good review.
Select Figures/Tables (at least ONE FIGURE/TABLE from each of the four (4) research articles is mandatory) and reproduce (copy & paste) them in the Main Text of the Review. Do not use INFOGRAPHICS in the Review’s Main Text; use them in the Introduction instead.
Rewrite a new Figure/Table Legend/Caption and acknowledge the source (REF). Note that reproducing copyrighted materials (Figures and Tables that have been published before) is allowed and encouraged if the source is acknowledged (Reprinted from REF.
Write the Main Text: For each of the selected articles, by describing (expanding) your bullet points, discuss Figures and Tables. You can use some AI-generated Text but avoid plagiarism (see OUTLINE assignment).
Write a Discussion/Conclusion: Combining all four (4) articles into a single discussion/conclusion. The discussion/conclusions section should summarize the topics discussed and describe future directions, including the author ́s opinions, as appropriate.
References and Annotations: The reference list should not be exhaustive – alert the reader of the research papers and reviews you are writing. Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets followed by authors, title, and journal publication record. Whenever citing someone else’s work, a REF. should follow it. You can use any commonly used referencing style such as Numbered, APA, Author-Date, or any referencing style used by scientific publishers.
Example of reference: [1] de Alba E, Antoro J, Rico MA, Jimenez MA: De novo design of a monomeric three-stranded anti-parallel β-sheet. Protein Sci 1999, 8:854-865. Example of Citation in text References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the Text, followed by those cited in figure legends or tables.
