IMPORTANT: Must have atlesat 4 nursing journals, NO AI use. Edit paper to at least minimum passing score using the instructions below:
Instructions
1. Choose a disease process that affects normal human physiological functioning.
Students are encouraged to discuss their paper topic with their faculty
readers.
2. Learn about the disease process selected by exploring the topic in at least 6
different reliable professional resources. Credible sources are nationally-recognized
organizations (i.e. websites ending in .gov, or .edu; use caution with .org websites,
and note that .com websites are not appropriate for academic writing). Please note
that some databases contain allied health articles as well as nursing articles.
To decipher between nursing and non-nursing journal sources, most nursing
journals have the word “nurse” or “nursing” in the journal title. If you are
unsure about a source, check with your reader. At least 4 of these resources must
be from current nursing journals (print or on-line) that are no more than 5 years old.
3. Analyze the disease process selected by describing the following:
A. Populations (groups) at highest risk for developing this problem; characteristics
of populations at risk (ages, cultural, educational and socioeconomic levels) and
discussion of why these populations are at risk
B. Pathophysiology of the disease process
C. Signs, symptoms and diagnostic procedures (assessment)
D. At least two appropriate nursing diagnoses with outcomes (please be sure to
write this section out in paragraph form – do not list)
E. Medical treatment (medical interventions) for this disease process
F. Utilize levels of prevention to describe nursing care that would help clients at
risk maintain optimal wellness in relation to the selected disease process. Identify
nursing interventions at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of prevention
G. Sequelae (secondary consequences or results from disease/other medical
conditions resulting from this disease process)
4. Write the term paper using APA format to document information that is not within the
student’s own personal knowledge base. APA guidelines can be accessed at:
https://tc3.libguides.com/citationhelp or at:
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
PLEASE NOTE THAT NO ABSTRACT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PAPER.
In the introduction students should address what will be discussed in the paper,
you decided to investigate this particular health problem, and what is the overall
scope of the health problem.
In the conclusion students should summarize what was covered in the paper, what
you learned, and how you plan to incorporate your learning into your nursing
practice.
5. Students are strongly encouraged to submit a draft of their paper for feedback from
their faculty reader. The draft must be a complete paper (8-12 pages of content,
written in full sentences and paragraphs with appropriate in-text citations and an
Originality Report Score <25%; no notes or outlines of papers will be accepted).
10
Students choosing to complete a draft must submit the draft as a Word document to
the assignment drop box on Brightspace by 8am on Monday, February 26. Late or
incomplete drafts will not receive feedback.
6. The final copy of the paper is due as a Word document in the assignment box on
Brightspace by 8am on Monday, April 8. Five points will be deducted for each
day that the paper is late. The minimum length of the paper is 8 pages and the
maximum is 12 pages. 1 point will be deducted for each page (or partial page) under
or over this requirement. The student may not take more than 25% of the text of the
paper from other sources; therefore, an Originality Report Score of no more than
25% is required on the draft and final paper. NOTE: even if the student’s originality
score on the final paper is no more than 25%, plagiarism and/or lack of appropriate
in-text citations will result in an automatic re-write and/or enforcement of the
College’s antiplagiarism policy.) This draft and final paper must be the student’s
original work and must be completed during the current semester for this
course. Note that any plagiarism or use of artificial intelligence (AI), detected
by Turnitin or any similar plagiarism/AI detector, will result in a score of 0, a
re-write of the assignment, and discussion with course faculty regarding
academic integrity. Re-writes of the final paper will be required until the
student receives a 75 or greater on the paper based on points lost in content,
research, and writing mechanics. The original grade prior to the required re-
write will be recorded in the grade book.
