Using
a criminal justice topic from the list of topics provided below, you will create
a research proposal that evaluates the relationship between one independent
variable and one dependent variable.
Possible
Topics:  Crime Displacement, Contraband in Prison,
Drug Courts, Drunk Driving, Electronic Monitoring, House Arrest, Juveniles
Transferred to Adult Court, Law Enforcement Safety, Shop Lifting, or Use of
Tasers.
This proposal will be
approximately 4-5 pages (excluding title and reference page).   Submit
your proposal to the grade book as a word document ending in .doc or
.docx.

Title page
II.                 
Introduction (1 – 2
paragraphs introducing the topic and any general assumptions about the topic). 
III.               
Review of Literature (using
the electronic databases from the Kean Library, find and summarize 4 – 5 peer-reviewed
journal articles relating to your topic)
IV.               
Variables and hypothesis
(using your topic, determine a specific problem relating to this topic.  This will serve as your dependent variable
(DV).  Once you have determined your
specific problem (DV), you can propose a possible solution for it.  This proposed solution will serve as your
independent variable (IV).  Also indicate
1-2 covariates that might have some impact on the dependent variable.

Create a testable hypothesis
using the independent and dependent variables from section IV.
VI.               
Population and Sample
(indicate the study population, sampling strategy, sampling technique, and
potential resulting sample that could be utilized in this proposal).
VII.             
Research methodology
(indicate and justify the type of research design that would be used to
evaluate the relationship between the independent and dependent variables
identified in section IV (true classic design, quasi-experimental design, or
non-experimental design).

(indicate the appropriate data collection methods to be used to measure the
independent and dependent variable).
