In this assignment, your mission is to pick a place in the US that you might/would like to end up in right
after college – either as a place for working or a place for traveling after graduation. After you pick this
place, your objective is to do a deep analysis on how this place is promoting itself and/or trying to stand
out from the crowd. What is it doing economically, socially, and politically to entice people? What is its
climate like, topography, etc.? How does the place describe its culture? How is it growing? What is the
place doing to grow sustainably? Are there incentives being offered, etc.? Think about how I’ve
organized each lecture to give an overview of the region, and maybe go on to describe elements of
particular places.
After describing the specific place, learn what you can about the major region it’s a part of. Using
information from the text or lecture notes is perfectly fine. Describe how this place fits into the bigger
picture of the broader region.
Your objective is to design the beginnings of what could become a website that describes your favored
place in the US. You can do this in your preferred document program, as long as what you turn in is a
PDF of the design. I want you to include imagery and maps. The descriptions of the place and region
should be your own, they can be personal, and should include at minimum these four browsing tabs,
followed by two of your own (a total of six browsing tabs)–
regional and place description (topography/climate/weather) – think … make me want to
move here.
economy – think … how can one sustain their livelihood here?
culture or social or political – think … does this place have peoples I could interact with, is their
entertainment, food, drink, cultural diversity, etc.; are the politics agreeable with my own
views?
fun/recreation – think … what can I do here on my weekends, or will I constantly be travelling
to find my preferred amenity?
Each “tab” or subheading that you create should be about 200-250 words in length. All said and done,
you should have about a 1200-1300 word essay. Citations do not count in your word count, but you
need to make sure that you cite all of your material in text and in a bibliography (your preferred style is
okay), as well as your pictures and maps
