This week, you will practice analyzing an ethical dilemma, similar to what your final presentation will be for the final class. Using all of the information and readings from the class, you are asked to provide a thoughtful and carefully considered response to the following two scenarios, one involving an HR issue, and one involving ethics on the job site.
Choose your response to each ethical dilemma below and support your choice with 1 page of explanation and analysis for each scenario as to why you made the choice you did.
HR scenario – An opening for an advanced position opens up in your company. The position includes a significant increase in pay as well as chances for involvement in high-level decision-making. It would be a real step up for someone in your current position, and you feel you have made all the right choices in setting yourself up for advancement, including taking night classes and making sure your projects run smoothly and are profitable. Ultimately, you are not given the promotion, and you feel that the person who was promoted was less qualified but was more social with those making the decisions. What do you do?
Go to your direct supervisor to discuss the decision
Talk to the employee who got the promotion to try and understand why they were selected

Construction ethics – You are bidding on a project and the designer has specified a product that you know is no longer produced but is available at a high price. You find an alternative product that will save the owner thousands and is readily available. What do you do?
Bid the project as specified including the product at the higher cost

Bid on the project with the lower-cost alternative without telling the designer
