You are a
professional who works for a local corrections agency and has been asked to
present to a community action group about a corrections topic. You have been
asked to present on one of the following topics: clients who struggle with substance abuse;
clients who have been diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) or
Psychopathy; mental illness in corrections; clients who have committed sexual
offenses; or the prevalence or trauma with the corrections clients and the need
for Trauma Informed Care.
Instructions
You will
choose to create either a PowerPoint presentation or a pamphlet to be
used in presenting this to the group. In
your Community Awareness PowerPoint or Pamphlet Assignment, discuss the
prevalence of your topic and how it is treated in either the community or the
prison system. Use at least three statistics regarding your topic and give at
least three ideas for how community and correctional agencies can help with
either prevention, treatment, or re-entry of incarcerated individuals. The
statistics should be explained in the presentation or pamphlet. The information
needs to be relevant to the group. The
recommendations for treatment and re-entry need to be expanded and discussed in
the pamphlet or the script of the presentation.
You should use illustrations and graphics to make your presentation or
pamphlet attractive and help the reader or listener to be interested in the
information.
Make sure to document your sources in current APA
formatting. Sources of information should have been published within the last
five years.
PowerPoint Instructions:
Your
presentation must be completed in Microsoft PowerPoint and must include the
following:

At least 10 slides (not
counting the title slide or reference slide, for a total of at least 12 slides)
●
A script (at least 100
words for each slide) as a guide for presenting the information

note—the script should not be part of the slide. It should be in the notes section or a
separate Word file. The viewer should not be seeing this part during the
presentation. This is for the person
presenting to use.)
●
A minimum of 3
statistics and 3 suggestions for community and correctional roles in re-entry,
prevention, or treatment.

Pamphlet Instructions:
Your
pamphlet may be constructed in either Microsoft Publisher or Microsoft Word and
must have an attractive, appealing design. It may be bi-fold or tri-fold, 8 ½”
X 11” or 8 ½” X 14”, but it must
include the following:

Information on both
sides of the paper
●
A minimum of 3
statistics with what they mean.
●
A minimum of 3
suggestions for treatment and re-entry.
●
A separate reference
page to be submitted with the pamphlet.
