For this laboratory, you will using the knowledge you now have on Biochemical tests and Media to identify 2 unknown organisms. You will choose 2 organisms (from those posted) and use the dichotomous keys and Media lab to figure out whether the results are positive or negative and what that means. Once you have identified the organisms, you will write a lab report on the unknown organisms as if the “lab tests” were your results.
The introduction should include information on why we conduct unknown tests, the necessity of unknown tests, information about Dichotomous Keys, information on each of the media used (biochemistry) and purpose of the laboratory.
For the methods, you can simply state that you have been provided results from your instructor.
For results, use the images provided and label them. Then, describe what the each result means biochemically (if it is green, and green is positive, what does that mean?). You should give an initial conclusion about the organism you found here.
For discussion, you will analyze the results you found. Create a flow chart or table about the tests and how they were used to eliminate organisms. For example, a purple gram stain means gram positive and you eliminated all gram negative possibilities. Certain results eliminate other organisms on the dichotomous keys.
