Your Mission
You work
for the CFO of your company (feel free to name your company) and you
have been given the relevant CSV files
which show the operating results of the
company. You need to prepare a visualization for the CFO, including looking at location mix,
product mix, profitability and whether there are
operations that may be
discontinued or expanded. The CFO would also like to be able to
review location and product type information by
adjusting filters in Tableau.
Your
objectives include:
• Review and
understand the data you have been given.
• Map out a
strategy to show the snapshots of the company’s operation using filters that the
CFO can
adjust as needed.
• Prepare at least a) three
Tableau sheets, b) one
interactive dashboard, and c) one story,
analyzing
location and product profitability, cost structures, and other key information.
• Prepare a memo (single space, no more
than 2 pages long) identifying and discussing trends
you feel
are important to bring to the CFO’s attention. Note that the information on the
memo
should correlate with the story you are telling in the Tableau
visualization.
Your
conclusions should be well thought out and organized and should result in
comments
as to what
you believe the company should focus on and why. Below are
some examples of
questions
that you can try to answer to draw your
conclusions:
• Are there
particular regions performing better or worse than the other regions?
• How are
the sales or performance of each
product compared with other products?
• If there
is a particular product not selling well, is this specific to any particular
region?
• Are there
any poorly performing products in high-performing regions?
• How does each
product/region
perform compare with prior year performance?
• Is there
any seasonality in the sales or performance?
