Watch the movie The Hate U Give (2018). The film is about an adolescent named Starr. It is based on the famous and award-winning novel by Angie Thomas.
Even if students have already watched this movie or read the book, please watch this movie again with the lens of a social worker to enhance your skills and analyze the issues of children and adolescents based on the knowledge you have learned in this course.
After watching the film, please write a 6 to 8-page double-spaced paper in APA (7th edition) format analyzing the biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual issues related to the main character Starr, using theories of child and adolescent development as appropriate.
Include an introduction paragraph (approximately ten sentences) that explains the main points of your paper (i.e., your thesis statement) and a conclusion paragraph (approximately 10-14 sentences) that summarizes the salient developmental theories explored and restates your introduction.
Write in the third person only. Do not include your opinion.
Please label each section below within the body of your paper.
Use the Hutchinson and Crain books as two of the three of your sources and cite them throughout each section of your paper.
Identify and analyze important biological and physical issues (puberty, physical development, neurological development) relating to Starr in the film. The Hutchinson text will be particularly helpful when writing this section.
Identify and analyze salient psychological (e.g., emotional, cognitive, trauma-ACEs) issuespertaining to Starr.
Identify and analyze significant social (e.g., work, friends, family, and school)issues about Starr.
Identify and analyze imperative spiritual (e.g., religion, meaning, and purpose) issues relevant to Starr in the movie.
Identify and analyze critical cultural (e.g., race, class, ethnicity, diversity) issues about Starr in the movie.
Identify the main strengths and challenges of Starr in the movie.
Skillfully apply at least two child and adolescent development theories to Starr in the movie. The Crain book will be particularly helpful when writing this section. Appropriately identify and cite the theories you are applying and cite your sources.
Demonstrate your understanding of Starr’s behavior in the context of her development and environment.
Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, and six to eight pages long, not including the title and reference pages, formatted in APA 7th edition.
