In your term paper, you will integrate several of the things you’ve learned this semester to tackle a real-world problem. Throughout the semester, we’ve talked about how the research on cognitive psychology relates to things in the world, like eye-witness testimony, education, depression, and more. You are going to build on this to provide a thorough explanation of how cognitive psychology can help the world. Below, I detail several real-word challenges. You have to choose one of these problems, and then explain, in detail, how to address aspects of it using at least three different topics from the course. This should be done in clear writing, in term-paper format. Use complete sentences, and write your paper as a coherent piece.
Your examples from cognitive psychology must be topics we’ve covered this semester. They can draw from our readings, videos, labs or any other course content. For each example, you need to explain the science behind it — why does it work the way it does, and why should it help with the problem you’re trying to solve? Be creative, but stay grounded in the actual research.
To support your arguments, you should refer to some outside sources. The textbook and the labs typically cite the studies they discuss, so you can use them to help you find outside sources that back up the arguments you’re trying to make. Make sure to cite the sources in your document!
Requirements
Use only your own words. Do not use any direct quotes.
Find at least two outside sources. These should be peer-reviewed journal articles that support your arguments. Make sure to cite them in your paper, and to include a references section with APA-formatted references.
In your paper, introduce the problem, and explain the aspects of it that you plan to address. Then explain in full sentences how findings in cognitive psychology address this problem. Explain the findings fully, and then describe in detail how they relate to your problem.
Include a discussion section where you summarize how your approach using cognitive psychology can help address the real-world problem.
Your final project should be about 4 pages of double-spaced writing (not including titles pages or references). There is no specific length that it must be, but thorough papers will need to be about 4 pages long.
Claude has noticed that he’s started to forget things fairly frequently. This has gotten him in trouble both at work and at home; his boss got frustrated when Claude forgot about an important meeting, and his partner was annoyed when Claude forgot to stop by the store for groceries on his way home from work. Claude wants to figure out how to be less forgetful about important things in his life. How can cognitive psychology help him be less forgetful?
