Assessment is by one assignment, a critical essay of 6000 words (100%) which integrates theory and practice. The assignment must include a clear structure with an abstract, a list of references and, where appropriate, appendices and diagrams. You must make appropriate use of journal articles and texts. References should follow the Harvard system – see YSJ Harvard at https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/ils/searchsu… (Please note, from 1 September 2019, a new reference system, Cite Them Right Harvard, will come into use at YSJ.) Details are included within the course material.)
The assignment should contain:
1. A definition of your personal entrepreneurial perspective. From that perspective, critically review theories of entrepreneurship. You should identify and compare theories that both support and critique your perspective. You should illustrate how entrepreneurship practiced in your context might contributes to the achievement of value outcomes at societal, organisational and individual level.
2. A critical analysis of a single entrepreneurial organisation (or individual) from your chosen perspective and context, using relevant theories to examine the extent (choice, newness, and uncertainty) to which entrepreneurship, the entrepreneur and entrepreneurialism contribute (or contributed) to their present position.
3. Either a critical reflection on your own entrepreneurial aspiration, drawing comparisons with the analysis of your chosen subject in part two, or an outline plan for the development of an entrepreneurial project, highlighting the opportunity, resources required, and a critical analysis of areas where you anticipate challenges.
Unless information is clearly in the public domain, to preserve confidentiality please anonymise any organisation you discuss in the assignment, e.g. by calling them Company X, or Governmental Organisation Y, or International Organisation Z. Similarly, where you write about private individuals, call them entrepreneur A, or person B.
N.B. The word count includes quotations but excludes footnotes, reference list, appendices, tables and graphs. Appendices will not count against the word limit but should not contain large amounts of text. (It will be expected that they will normally contain diagrams or tables or visual images). If you exceed the wordcount by more than 10%, you will be penalised.
